Omowumi Asubiaro-Dada
Board
Wumi Asubiaro -Dada (LLB, LLM) is a human rights lawyer with decades of experience working on issues related to social inequality, gender-based violence, women’s political participation and legislative advocacy.
She received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Lagos State University, Nigeria in 1999 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2000 having completed her Law School in Nigeria. She holds a Master of Law Degree with specialization in human rights and democratization from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She currently teaches International Criminal Law at the University of Toronto where she is also a Ph.D candidate at the Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal studies. Wumi has worked in law and public policy for the past 21 years where she has designed and managed projects on women and legal reform for non-governmental organizations, government agencies, international development agencies and occasionally consults for them. She has contributed to novel research such as the Gender in Nigeria Report and led national surveys. Her work experience spans advocacy, research, training, project design, implementation, and evaluation.
She sits on the board of BAOBAB For Women Human Rights, Abode Community Centre (Canada) while currently working as a project/technical advisor to two projects that are exploring the use of technology in understanding and de-escalating conflicts in Nigeria and a MacArthur Foundation funded project on electoral integrity with WRAPA.
